Community Outreach
At Canon Davis we are always striving to love our neighbours not only through the gift of our financial support for mission and ministry, but by more hands on volunteer work. Each Christmas for the past few years Canon Davis volunteers have provided a hot Christmas dinner for students at London Road Public School.
Some of the proceeds of our fund-raising dinners and teas go to a variety of worthwhile projects—local, national, and international. For example donations towards coffee hour go to the Inn of the Good Shepherd for its work in feeding the poor and homeless.
We support:
Community of Sarnia, Lambton County: Mission to Seafarers, Habitat for Humanity, Huron House Boys’ Home, Womens’ Interval Home, Inn of the Good Shepherd.
Lambton Deanery: Anglican Church Women, Brotherhood of Anglican Churchman
Diocese of Huron: Huron Church Camp, Youth service
Anglican Church of Canada: Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, Diocese of Keewatin, Fellowship of the Least Coin, Clergy Wives of the North, Diocese of Yukon.
These donations are over and above the sixth of our parish budget which we send annually to the Diocese, which supports not only the ministry of the Diocese of Huron, but the Anglican Church of Canada with its work in the north and overseas.
Pastoral Care
As a Christian community we are committed to caring for the sick and the elderly. This is a ministry for both the clergy and laity. We are in the process of establishing a pastoral care team which can better identify needs and respond to them. The Rev. Bob Bettson is always available on request to provide home communion, as well as a friendly visit.
Baptism is how we welcome people into the church, the family of believers in Jesus Christ. The Anglican Church welcomes those interested in receiving baptism, whether as children, or as adults. Those interested in talking about baptism should contact the Rev’d Bob Bettson at 519-336-8081 (home) or 344-9531 (church) or emailbettsonbob@gmail.com
Marriage is both a civil and religious ceremony, which can both take place at the same time in a beautiful service at Canon Davis Memorial Church. We provide an ideal setting for a traditional wedding with our intimate space and outstanding stained glass windows. You will find the Anglican service of marriage rich and awesome. We have a pipe organ and our music director is available to play weddings. Please contact the Rev'd Bob Bettson, as above.
We recommend all couples seeking marriage take part in marriage preparation courses in addition to meetings with the Rev’d Bob Bettson.
Funerals are a vital part of the grieving process. We mourn the loss of a loved one and celebrate their lives. The beauty of the church, and the Anglican tradition of worship and music mean we can offer a meaningful and fitting memorial or funeral service. Please contact the Rev’d Bob Bettson regarding arrangements.
